What Are the Ford A Plan and Z Plan?
The New Vehicle Purchase Plan for Corporate Employees is the official title given to Ford’s A Plan and Z Plan. Overall, this plan offers the best prices for new Ford and Lincoln vehicles. If you or a family member work for Ford, you can take advantage of the A Plan or Z Plan to get the best prices on new vehicles. Both of these plans provide excellent savings to current Ford employees, retirees, and their immediate family members. But who exactly is eligible for the plans, and how do they work? These are two questions we want to answer for you.
A Plan Eligibility
The A Plan is designed for active Ford employees, including full-time employees, regular, hourly, and supplemental salary employees, and regular part-time employees who are eligible for medical benefits. US-based temporary part-time (TPT) employees also qualify for the A Plan. In addition, workers still qualify for the A Plan during the first 12 months after being laid off, along with employees on an approved leave of absence, as long as they’re still eligible for medical benefits.
Anyone who is eligible can pass on their A Plan discount to immediate family members. This includes spouses, parents, siblings, spouse’s parents, grandparents, children, in-laws, step-children, and grandchildren. You may also use your plan discount to purchase a vehicle for a business that is owned by you.
Z Plan Eligibility
Ford’s Z Plan offers savings to retirees and their relatives. The discounts available under the Z Plan are identical to those under the A Plan. You qualify for the Z Plan if you’re an hourly retiree receiving a normal, early, regular, or special retirement benefit; a salaried retiree who retired under the General Retirement Plan, or a surviving spouse of someone who died during active employment or while receiving retirement benefits. As with the A Plan, people eligible for the Z Plan can pass on the discounts for new Ford or Lincoln vehicles to their immediate family members.
How Many Discounts Can Plan Participants Claim?
Whether you’re eligible for the A Plan or Z Plan, you can claim four personal identification numbers (PINs) per year. Each PIN is good for one discounted vehicle purchase. You can request your PINs online by visiting the Ford A-X-Z Plan website. Your PIN will be active for 12 months after you obtain it. Then, it will expire and it will not be counted towards a subsequent calendar year. To give you an example, this means that if you requested four PINs in November 2020, they will expire in November 2021. However, as of January 2021, you’ll be eligible for four new PINs because it will be a new calendar year.
How Do You Claim Your A or Z Plan Discount?
When you decide which vehicle you want to purchase, you’ll need to show your local auto dealer your PIN. They’ll also take note of the last four digits of your Social Security Number as proof of your identity. If one of your immediate family members is claiming the discount, they will need to prove that they are related to you by showing their driver’s license or other official identification. Once the dealership has this information, they’ll enter it into their computer system to verify your eligibility and get locked-in approval from Ford for the transaction.
If you have already provided your A Plan or Z Plan details to your auto dealer but decide to back out of the transaction, remember to request cancellation of the locked-in approval. Otherwise, you won’t be able to use your PIN if you wish to purchase a discounted vehicle elsewhere.
Can You Purchase a Used Vehicle With the A or Z plans?
The discounts available under both plans are redeemable for purchases of new vehicles only. They don’t cover optional extras, like extended warranties or accessories for your Ford.
What About Leasing a Vehicle Under the A or Z Plans?
You can claim a discount on a leased vehicle under both the A Plan and Z Plan. Bear in mind, however, that the lease must be secured through Ford Credit for you to benefit from the discounted price.
How Long Will the A Plan and Z Plan Last?
Ford doesn’t have an end date for either the A Plan or Z Plan. However, the company has the option of adjusting the terms and conditions of either plan as it sees fit. If you’re unsure about any of the plan’s terms, talk to us at Oxmoor Ford for help.
